Today Lilly made an exciting connection between addition and multiplication. She had some pictures of 'sets' of a number and was adding them (i.e. 3+3+3+3; 4 threes =). Then I pulled out some old flashcards I had made when teaching 3rd grade (1995-96 - wow!) and 'showing' this same transition. I had her go through a few of them and then showed one with a multiplication problem - she said "I can't do that. That's multiplication." Micah started paying more attention because he knew what was coming, and he smiled real big knowing how excited she was going to be. I said "It's the same as you've just been doing, just written differently. Say it as 'sets' or 'groups of'." She did and she lit up!! She wanted more. Micah and I began pouring out multiplication problems and she'd whip out the answer, dance around, and smile real big. It was fantastic!

Piano Lessons Begin
Orthodontist - phase 2 continues
While sitting in the waiting area of Dr. McCallister's office Angie (the receptionist) walks over to us with a huge 'cake display' of school items. She said "Micah won this!" His mouth dropped open and he seemed in disbelief. It was one of the items put on the receptionists' counter for patients to participate in trivia for the month. Last month it was "how many school supplies are on this display?" Micah's guess was the closest.
So, after selecting his 'black & white' bands (for piano starting), he carried his display of school supplies out to the car to go home. When he got home he began taking items off, organizing them, and counting them. (My little beaver!)

1st Day of School
It's Monday, August 24th and our first day of school. Micah begins 6th grade and Lilly 2nd grade. Hard to believe! We are very excited about the things that God has planned for us to learn this year.
We did our "first day of school" height and weight:
Micah: 85.8 lbs. and 5' 2"
Lilly: 42.0 lbs. and 3' 10.5"
Several "big eyes" stuffed animals joined us, as well as Sammy (our cat).
